If you are an emergent or beginning reader, you have not yet developed the alphabetic principle matching letters to sounds and therefore must use other "cues" to begin to read text. The students use plastic letters to build a word from their list. The majority of the book is made up of the word lists, resources for teaching, and helpful suggestions for dealing with children with specific needs. This ten-step process should help even poor spellers improve their skills.
